13u Coach

Mark Mariani will be entering his second season coaching for Tacoma Baseball Club as
a 2025-2026 13U coach. Mark has coached numerous sports over the last decade and
has focused on developing competitive and relationship driven teams and players. His
coaching philosophy is influenced from his own playing experience in football and
basketball, his vocation as a physician leader, and as a parent of three active boys.
However, he credits the largest influence from playing under Frosty Westering at Pacific
Lutheran University, and who was widely regarded as a pioneer in modern coaching
philosophy.
Mark’s players and families can expect the following from his coaching approach:
 Growth mindset – playing with “Total release” and developing resiliency
 Strengths focus – identifying and leveraging the unique strengths and
contributions of each player for the team’s benefit
 Aggressive play – encouraging players on both offense and defense to take
appropriate risks
 Relationships – creating an environment where players play for each other
Mark also places a high priority on consistent, transparent, and honest communication.
Playing club/select baseball can be a challenge for players and parents and
communication is essential to managing everyone’s expectations.
Mark has been married for 27 years to Erika and they have 3 boys Luke (18), Kellen
(16), and Zeke (12). They often spend their free time together golfing, watching the
boys play baseball, following the Mariners, or finding any other game to watch on
gamechanger. In his spare time, Mark is a physician leader with MultiCare Health
System and works across the Pacific Northwest.
