Coach Maika’i Derouin graduated from Kennedy Catholic in 2011, where he was a standout athlete, lettering all four years as an outfielder and left-handed pitcher, earning NPSL 3A First Team honors. During high school, he also played for the Triple Play Hornets during summer baseball. He continued his baseball journey at Grandview University from 2011 to 2013 before transferring to Pacific Lutheran University, where he played from 2013 to 2015, securing the Northwest Conference Championship in his final year. From 2016 to 2020, Maika’i served as the Head JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at Federal Way High School, where the program reached the top 8 in 2019 and earned 3rd place in the state in 2018. Since 2016, he has committed to coaching various baseball teams, guiding players aged 5 to 18, and enhancing his coaching philosophy by learning from outstanding mentors.
Maika’i believes in fostering a growth mindset and being a student of the game, emphasizing the development of athletes, teammates, and individuals through baseball. His journey has instilled in him the value of lifelong learning and the impact of a positive team culture. He advocates for focusing on the process rather than the scoreboard, believing successful teams are built on a positive culture and love for the daily grind. Coach Maika’i Derouin is committed to mentoring and guiding young athletes, instilling in them the skills and mindset necessary for success both on and off the field.
