Barron Tanay

Barron Tanay is a Tacoma native who grew up playing through Soundview Little League before moving into select and summer baseball with the Washington Select Gators, Washington Wildcats, and Washington Barons. In 2008, he was part of a Barons team that won the Connie Mack State Championship.

His high school career began at Foss High School before he transferred to Stadium High School, where he played varsity during his junior and senior seasons. As a junior, he helped Stadium reach the State quarterfinals, finishing one win away from the Final Four. He was a two-time Coaches Award recipient and was voted team captain by his teammates as a senior.

After growing up primarily as an infielder, Barron transitioned to pitching later in his playing career. He became a pitcher exclusively with the Washington Barons and earned a baseball scholarship to pitch at Green River College, where he played during the 2008–09 and 2011 seasons. He has also continued playing and managing men's league baseball since 2015, winning three league championships across the Roy Hobbs, NABA, and PSSBL leagues.

His coaching journey started in 2016 as an assistant with Rock Creek Select's 13U program under Duane Henkel, helping the team to a second-place finish in the Seattle Elite League before taking over as head coach in 2017. After some time away from coaching, he returned to Stadium High School in 2022 as a varsity assistant and was hired as the Head Baseball Coach at Silas High School the following year.

Over four seasons at Silas, Barron has compiled a 57–32 overall record (42–14 league). The Rams qualified for the District playoffs in each of those four seasons, won a share of the Pierce County League Championship in 2023, and advanced to the WIAA State Tournament in 2023 and 2024. Among his proudest accomplishments at Silas has been seeing numerous players earn All-League recognition and helping players continue their baseball careers at the collegiate level.

His time with Tacoma Baseball Club began in 2024 as an assistant coach with the 15U Premier team, beginning a three-year run coaching alongside Nico Marchio. He moved to 16U College Prep in 2025 and 17U College Prep in 2026 before being named Head Coach of the 18U College Prep team for the 2026–27 season. Since the fall of 2024, he has also worked as a baseball instructor at Mariners Training Center.

For Barron, coaching is an opportunity to give back to the next generation and help players recognize, hopefully earlier than he did, just how much they can get out of the game on a personal level. Having experienced the impact that coaches and mentors had on his own life, he strives to provide that same positive influence for his players.

That philosophy is rooted in work ethic, mental fortitude, selflessness, competitiveness, and being a great teammate. Above all, he wants players to discover what they are truly capable of. He believes strongly in pushing past limiting beliefs and creating an environment where players can challenge themselves, embrace adversity, and ultimately prove to themselves that they are capable of more than they may have thought.

Just as importantly, the lessons and demands of baseball should never overshadow something simple: the game is supposed to be fun. Baseball will humble players, challenge them, and force them to deal with failure, but those challenges are also part of what makes the experience so rewarding. There are few things in sports better than being part of a team that genuinely cares about one another, competes for one another, and is all rowing in the same direction.

Ultimately, he hopes his players leave the program as better baseball players, but cares just as much about what they take with them when the uniform eventually comes off. His goal is for players to leave with greater confidence, resilience, work ethic, and an understanding of what it means to fully commit themselves to something and to the people around them.

Outside of baseball, Barron works as an Account Executive at Baden Sports and lives in South Hill with his wife, Maddie, and their two dogs, Paxton and Storm. They enjoy cooking and baking, working out, watching movies and shows, seeing live music, and rooting for the Mariners and Seahawks. He is also a collector of baseball cards and player autographs.

As he takes over TBC's 18U College Prep program, Barron hopes to create the kind of experience that reminds players why they fell in love with baseball in the first place while preparing them for wherever the game takes them next. He wants his players to compete relentlessly, be confident in their abilities, invest in the people around them, and enjoy the opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves. Above all, he hopes their time together becomes something they value long after their last game is played.
